Point North, Gloster Hill Self Build

So now we have decided to start from scratch, we’ve got to decide what sort of things we want, and find someone to help us design it, otherwise it will just be a big box!

So the first thing we’ve done is created a “Design Brief” which covers things like who we are, what we like doing, what we like and don’t like in terms of our current house (and previous ones), and finally a set of “spatial requirements” which describes rooms we want (or don’t want) and what function those spaces have.

Then we decided to check out some Architects and thought that 3 would be a good number. So we gave them all a copy of our design brief and set up meetings.

We had a few days away and included an initial trip to the Architect of the current plans, Richard Ruddick at Haults Park in Newcastle, secondly we made contact and had a site visit with David @ THAA who happen to be based up the road from us, and then a Zoom call with Will @ MawsonKerr who are based in Newcastle as well. They were all really enthusiastic and helpful and promised to send us a proposal and costs.

Now we just need to decide …. although we do have some time as we haven’t actually bought the land yet!
